I believe it has something to do with the oil from the factory having special additives for the brand new engine which are supposed to protect it during break in period and they want you to leave it in longer.

I thought the leave it in longer was probably the EPA influence. I did read the manual I have 3 other Honda's and on my wife,s car the maintenance minder put it at 12k miles. way to many for my liking
