And another reason why I was concerned about the transmission is I went to another s2k forum site where they had a few people complaining about the car popping out of gear and grinding gears between 5th and 6th. Most of the responses said that he needed to replace the trans fluid, some kind of 60k mile service that needed to be done. Do you think that might be the case??

Its just notchy when the trans fluid is cold. When a little bit of heat is in the trans it loosens up quite a bit. I change my trans fluid about every 15K just to keep it shifting smooth. I have heard about some AP2 S2000's popping out of gear, I think there is a TSB for this (I'm not sure what they do for the TSB).
