Most peeps think of the digital gauges as somewhat 80s (unless they've seen the inside of a Formula1 car). The S has those gauges because it's going for the F1 car feel. The gauge cluster really is very tiny thanks to those digital readouts. Imagine how small the faces would have to be for separate analog dials to fit into that space.
Some sport bikes have a digital speedo (LCD) and analog tach.
