It depends how serious the swirls are but I'd say your best bet at removing those fine line scratches is with an orbital buffer like a Porter-Cable. With the right combo of pad and swirl remover you can do an A-1 job.
(Can be done by hand of course, just harder and lenghtier process).
I use mostly boutique products from internet stores like Classic Motoring Accessories and Specialty Motoring Products (to name just a few). Pinnacle products, Poor Boys or Clearkote are all very good.
OTC you can't go wrong with Mothers or Meguiars.
As far as the final step product (just a 10 cent term for wax!) your choice is either carnauba or synthetic. Again, most OTC products are fine especially one called ICE.
