Questions about lowering springs...

Questions about lowering springs...

What are some good springs that will lower my s2k only like an inch or so... I dont wanna drop it too much. Also would I have to get a camber kit to adjust the camber for only an inch? And do you guys recommend also buying new shocks for the lowering springs or are the stock ones good enough? Thanks. Just to let you know. I'm a brand new s2k owner... So yea. Any help would be appreciated... thanks

I just asked basically this same question a couple threads down and didn't get an answer. Over at S2KI.com the reply was, no camber kit needed for a one inch drop. Not sure about the struts.

No, a camber kit is not needed.

No, you do not NEED new shocks (we don't have struts), but the OEM ones are not designed for the car to sit 1 inch lower. I ran for a couple years on KG/MM race springs and the OEM shocks. Not a bad ride. I then went to coilovers and Koni yellow shocks. The ride is a lot smoother and has a better feel. If it were me and I knew then what I know now, I would have changed the shocks as well, but as I said, you don't NEED to.

question for Go,

with that spring and shock setup, are you noticing a better ride in everyday driving, or just on the track? parts cost?

I like the ride of the coilover and Koni's better than the KG/MM race springs and OEM shocks, whether it be daily driving ot track driving.

The coilovers are not the expensive one, mine are Ground Control. There are others that are very expensive and probably work better especially on the track, but I am just tracking for fun so it doesn't really matter to me if I shave off 6/10's of a second per lap. I don't remember what I spent on the CO and shocks, but it was through a group buy on S2KI.

also. What are some good camber kits for the s2000? If i decide to lower it any further? and how low do i go you think before i'd need a camber kit? seeing how you cant rotate the tires i need them to last...

I don't have a camber kit and I am not sure if you even need one. My rear's are tucked and the front could be if I wanted them to be.

really? hmm.. how much is your car lowered? and do you go through tires faster than normal? i just dont wanna be buying tires all the time...

I am not sure how far I am lowered. Mine are adjustable so I can put the car at whatever height I want. If someone has a stock 2002 and wants to go out and measure from the top of the wheel arches to the ground, we can figure out the differences.

As for tire wear, I was on race tires for the past few thousand miles and now I am on street tires so it's not a fair comparison. I just drive until I need new tires and buy some.

I personally had the same set up as 'go' on my civic. I didn't really like the feel on them and went to eibach pro kit springs and kept the konis. with my mr2 I had full coilover set up from tein. I loved it because I kept it at about a 1" drop which meant, i wasn't scrapin up my front end and still had great handling. The ride quality was adjustable with the shocks' tower *****, so I had a good compromise with stiff/comfortable ride. with my s2000 the handling is so damn good, I really don't want to mess with it too much. If I was doing it strictly for looks, I would go with a spring shock combo, like the ones from tokico (tirerack.com sells them) seem very reasonable and are about a 1" drop. at least the springs and shocks are designed together. if you go with tein, I would talk to an authorized dealer, and make sure you get the right spring rates for what you want to use the car for. But it all boils down to exactly what you are trying to accomplish. For now, i'm sticking to stock, but then again, I'm happy with the handling as well as the looks for now.

I got tein S springs on stock shocks 1 inch drop just needed to get it put on a rack to to get the camber reset to stock. No need for a camber kit here. The spring rate is a hair higher but feels good and almost stock. Probably would need a camber kit after you go past 2inches, just my thoughts. As far as camber kits go i've always had good luck with Skunk2, i dont know if they make one for S2000 but its something to look in to.

Mugen NZ dampers

Mugen NZ dampers are perfect for the car. Nothing additional is necessary. Stiffer sway bars are also of great benefit.
