If you get an efficient sub you can get away with 1 10" sub. My Boston Pro audio 10.5 LF only requires a 1/2 cuft box. Many people fill up the whole trunk well with a box and then fill it with dampening material. You can get the same performance from a smaller acoustic enclosure. Find a good quality sub and get the box size from the manufacturer, not the guy at the store who wants to put a coffin in your trunk.
