There's no logic behind it other than it was something I wanted to create. I took the project off of the shelf a couple of months back (started several years back), polished up the details, and what you see is the result. It's some people's cup of tea, others not so much. There is also a 'standard' mode that operates just like a regular pair of brake lights. The 'Contraction' mode you see in the initial portion of the video is similar to the AP2 tails.
