A short 'ram' is not a ram. 'Ram' implies that more air is being forced into the intake the faster the car goes. The air can not be forced into the intake if it is under the hood and there is no DIRECT opening to it from the outside.

Plus a short 'ram' air intake in the S is only pulling in hot, under hood air, not cold air which is optimal.
