If you want to seriously race, you need the SCCA rule book before you do anything. Then you need a roll-cage (unless you want to run show-room stock and I don't have any idea what those rules are), then you need Nomex, lots of Nomex, and a helmet. Tracks don't supply insurance and your insurance company will disown you faster than an ex-mother-in-law. I've never raced in stock classes, so any information here is strictly what I gained over adult beverages with other drivers and pit crew (with the exception of buying the handbook, the roll-cage, the nomex and helmet).
