I just got an 05 S2000
Hello,
I just got bought a certified 05 S2000 for about 19k. It should be here soon. I am very excited about it, been reading that it rocks.
What do you think about the price? Anything special I should know about the car? Any problems?
I live in MA, is a hardtop recommended?
Thanks,
Mike
woo.

Congrats man 19k awesome price. I got an 02 with 40,000 miles for the same price. First thing I checked was the oil not a huge issue but wise to check every now and again. I dont have a hardtop simply because if I want to I can put it down whenever.
Oh big thing the car has a 8k redline but it will not reach that redline (it goes to 5800 rpm i think) until the car warms up. So drive nice until the temp gauge reaches 3bars then you can. (That scared the crap out of me when I first got my car.) That and hunt for the secret compartment..... enjoy. =]

That car will not run right until you post some pictures of it here. I can't read but I like to look at pictures, especially picture of shiney objects. Is it shiney? Please post a picture, please, please, please..........

I think the warm-up limiter is a pretty cool feature that will prob prevent me from damaging anything. I like this car already.
Secret compartment is in the trunk or main cabin?
Here's a dealer pic of the car. Like I said, I haven't recieved it yet.

oh yeah, almost forgot, what is this color called? I am looking into getting a hardtop for the car, and it has to be painted to match...
Mike,
Welcome to the site and congrats on the new ride. What do you need a hardtop for??? as long as there's no snow the top can come down ( I bet a few don't care about the snow) I also have an '05 I bought a few months ago $22k with 20K miles so looks like you got a good buy

Welcome to the site. I think you got an amazing deal on the car. Have fun with stewie and learn to drive him before you do anything crazy. Many people like myself have gotten into accidents cause the back end kicked out when we didn't expect it. Are you planning on doing any mods?
Nice car, hope it's the real picture!
The secret compartment is somewhere in the car, and usually has the owner's manual in it, in which you can find the location of the secret compartment... And the switch to open the fuel cover ...
Ya one other thing the backend is a bit twitchy at first. Cold tires cold road look out. Normally once the tires heat up though it grips great. Just find the limits so you know what the car can do. (Which is alot)
Yeah I can see that now, Laguna blue is a little bit darker. I am in the Boston MA area. Which is why I am looking into the hardtop for it.
Will do, sounds awesome!
nice color
I call mine "blue," but I did like the comment about it being a primer color for F1 RED - very funny. I bought it last jan for $20,000 w/30,000 mi.
* I needed gas on the way home (WV to PA) and couldn'tfind the release for the hatch - had to unload my trunk, find the manual and open the hatch w/a group of onlookers wondering if I was blonde *

I just picked up my S2000.
I love how tight the car feels. And looks awesome too. I haven't tried top down since its snowing here.
Some questions:
With top up, it theres some rattling when the road is choppy, coming from right rear, is this a problem?
Standing next to car when it is idling, I hear a clicking noise at the rear, problem?
Car pulls to left a little I think something needs to be done about this.
I'm having trouble with smooth, peaceful launches from a standstill, any tips for this, besides 'get better at driving'
?
Thanks all,
Mike

I would't worry about some rattling from driving. Mine is a rattle trap after 112k miles, but the clicking sound should not be happening. If the miles are hard track miles, it wouldn't be out of the question to have a bad wheel bearing. My buddy's went at 30k miles because of track days. Mine went at 100k and I started doing track days at 65k.
Whenver buying a sports car, actually any car, there is a list of things you should do right away if you don't know the owner or prior history of the car. Most important are a wheel alignment and changing of ALL the fluids and filters. The amount of maintenance upfront may cost a bit, but it will be money well spent if that car has "spent" fluids running through it and wearing out all your internals exponentially quicker. Good luck.
The seatbelt clip is fine.
Also, the heater smells like BO or something. I am thinking cabin filter needs changing, but any other ideas?
Thanks all,
Mike
Welcome Tim.. Really nice car for the $$$
Actually the BO-scented air conditioner was an option starting in MY04.. Seems that some of the more masculine types felt the car was too refined..and some female purchasers loved that burly blast when they opened the door....
Don't ask me, I've got an '00...
ps.. Had a VW that smelled like that and it was a plugged air cond drain...for what it's worth..

I really like that color on these cars. I've been told that it is wise to get a hardtop because the seats are commonly stolen since the top gets ripped open.
Don't know first hand, saw it on someone's car and been told a few times.

My other seat squeaked when it had my lovely passenger in it, bugged us both. I finally tried the same thing I did on my seat, which was to sit in it, slide it one click forward, then let the back back. Fixed, now we're both happier! Maybe that could fix your rattle too...
The most popular culprit to rattlin' when you're drivin' sans passenger is the male end'a the passenger seat buckle.
Sittin' idlin''d first make me think expansion (contraction if coolin') of metal stuff. Fuel pump'z a likely suspect if the sound's regular.
As for hardtops: the stock hardtop'z a sexy, expensive expanse'uv aluminum jus' waitin' ta be violated. No less expensive, the carbon-fibre offerin'z can put up with a considerable amount'uv abuse n' be none-worse-for-wear.
N' trust me on this: if you're unfortunate enough to have to park Stewie in unobserved areas, regularly, 'r even occasionally, the only thing a hardtop'z gonna do to protect your seats is to give the @*#&erz somethin' else ta carry when they leave.
If ya godda park where ya know ya probably shouldn't park . . . isn't it yer buddy'z turn ta drive?
Be well,
Java

hmm, I see a convincing argument from Java about not getting a hardtop...
Thanks all for the suggestions,
Mike
PS, I see what everyones gripes are with the stock stereo, pretty effin weak.
Thats a good point about the hardtop. I read somewhere today that just put locking bolts/nuts in place of the regular ones on the seat rails. Its a good idea to the extent. How exactly are these seats?
Also, my friend is putting a sensor alarm at the top of his windshield that goes across to the back, so if theres motion when the alarms armed it goes crazy.
Hes not too sure if it will work but that sounds good too. I plan on getting an awesome alarm anyways. Honda drivers in Florida think other Hondas are royalty and they must have them. Also tag everything in your car somehow. I don't know if all of these risks are that high, but I'd like to feel better than go out to find a slashed top without warning

Silver, you bring up a good point to consider about theft.
One more question, and then I'll stop bumping (maybe) my 'introduction' thread... :P
At high speeds on the highway going in a straight line, like 70+ mph, the car seems to sorta drift/sway/jerk (not sure how to describe it) seemingly randomly. I attribute this to the road being slightly uneven in certain spots and the stiff suspension just follows the road surface, but I could be wrong.
Thanks all,
Mike
