Simple maintenance

Just a reminder. Don't forget to do your simple maintenance things. I just replaced my PCV valve thats supposed to get replaced every 10k. I don't think it was ever replaced by the original owner by the looks of it. It should give me about 1 more mpg and help out emissions. Not too bad for a $2.18 two minute fix.

Also, I just replaced my stock air intake to a K&N drop in and it looked mad dirty. It had grass clippings and a whole bunch of junk in it. I don't think that was ever replaced either. My car has about 38k.

I was just on s2ki and found a post with pic's of a cabin filter of an 06 s2k with 16k on it. With only 16k it looked like almost black compared to the new white. Its probably because we have convertibles and junk gets in the system.

Doing simple stuff like this will help keep your car running efficient.

10k on a pcv valve is very unusual for most cars. Is that unique to an AP1? It's not the requirement for an AP2.

the simplest maintenance:

check your oil--at least when you gas up

check your tires--cold--32psi--at least weekly

wouldn't hurt to do both every time you take your car out of the garage. only takes a minute. could save you a bundle or your life.

whats a PVC valve?
a vent for engine ....

Positive Crankcase Vent .......( I agree with DJJSR that 10k seems like an awfully short lifespan for a pcv valve. I usually clean them once every great while, and finally replace them when they fail.)

it's good stuff.

PCV is for engine emissions, PVC is polyvinyl chloride as in irrigation piping for landscapes.

'At's why Doc was always the guy we turned to when a decision hadda be made. A detail oriented kind'a guy. Dopey n' Bashful wouldn't'a made it 10 minutes without 'im. (Although, there was the notoriety involved in that Snow White incident. He could'a played our cards a little closer to our chests on 'at one.)

It's possible Neil. If you look under the hood and you see 3/4" or 1" white pipes with 90 degree elbow and/or "T" connectors...yes. Sprinkler heads are also a bonus as they keep your engine bay clean. If you do have these modifications, chances are that your car was at one time owned by a gardener.

Of course you can have PVC under the hood. How do you think they get water injection into the engine?

10,000 miles for a PCV valve is too short. It's a cheap replacable part, but not money that has to be spent at that short of an interval.

Off the top of my head , I suggest you check the manual, but it should just be a few screws that need tightening.............good luck.

You're right H20, I usually get my junk sandblasted once every 2 years, and just a good coat of wax in between. STD free since '02!!

You can, but the part of my brain that held memories of pre-'02 turned to mush before I sought treatment. Ahhhh, good times.......

I'm unsure Don. As I mentioned, part of my brain is mushy.......'n the rest is froze up. Brrrrrrr.......Yonderland is not weather friendly today. I was standing on top of my little fishpond yesterday. I hope the boys are ok under there, in their current cryogenically imposed state of hibernation. I know it's chilly where you are buddy.

Hmmm...I'm thinking it might be time to replace my PCV valve and cabin filter, especially since I've never done it and I have 113k miles.

Could we go back to the very first post on this thread for a sec?

Does K&N make a "drop in" replacement air filter for Stewie? I was under the impression they only did a cold air intake system.

Thanks and regards

Yep, heres a link to the filter you would need.
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...px?Prod=E-2435

hp wise i didn't notice more pull, but the throttle response was a little better in the lower revs.

I'd recomend it. Its so easy to install, you don't even need a screwdriver. It fits in place by holding the filter in place with a little appendage from near the top of the cone and by sliding into the intake box.
