One significant problem with street racing is that it's not a controlled environment like a racetrack. There are no containment walls, restricted areas, safety equipment, etc. Often the person who is hurt or killed is an innocent bystander.
Another problem is some guys sometimes put more power into a car than it was designed to handle. That, coupled with lack of competitive driving experience and the inability to safely perform sudden evasive or corrective maneuvers at high speeds is simply an incipient accident.
Think about this.......You're driving along with your wife and children in your minivan. Beautiful day and your on your way to spend it at the beach having fun with your kids. All of a sudden, a "street racer" T-bones your van. Your entire family is killed. You survive.
