I don't agree that all posting here is now negative, but I've seen more recently than in the past. Lighten up already! If you want to dis another member here you're in the wrong place, we're all at the bar with Sam sharing stories and advice.

Street racing is a flame war waiting to happen here, we all know that (and those that didn't know that now do) so don't write it if you're not ready for that reaction. On the other hand, a lot of people here have had stories and experiences of technically breaking the law by speeding, and can't honestly throw stones at that house...

I know, there is a difference between simple speeding (or even the occasional friendly race "in clear weather with no traffic and otherwise good conditions" - I've done that myself and written about it here, and it was fun), and ego-driven street racing where you're not really thinking about the conditions or safety. That's what gets people's dander up - racing for emotion without really thinking about the dude with his family that had a long day and pulls out in front of you when you're going fast enough to win but not slow enough to stop the way that dude expected. Or the kid who pulls out because he has no clue that you can't stop that fast, or anyone who doesn't even see you. All of these, and many other tragic stories, ended badly... I think most street racing doesn't end that way but nobody here wants anyone here to join that club. Admit it, when you're in the race zone you're not thinking "I hope nobody pulls out in front of me", you're thinking "hit the shift, keep the line, I gotta stay ahead of that guy", right? I'd wager that every one of the tragic race crashes that I've seen here in town ended up with "OH S$%T!" and the sudden realization that it was not a safe race track but a public street with other people on it...

So don't be offended. Some people here don't like street racing because they don't want you to ever join that horrible guilt club. It has nothing to do with your ability, it has everything do to with the fact that other people may be on the road oblivious to the fact that you're racing, and it could really wreck your day. And your car. And their life. And yours.

As Java says, be well.
