-You decided to 'lose' him when he was a gear below you and you weren't in VTEC range. Common mistake. Good forumla is 20mph for 1st, 40 for 2nd, 60 for 3rd and so on. Odd multiples of 10s are a problem because you're too fast for the lower gear, too slow for the next one.
-Your top was down (huge difference above 70mph)
-He had more mods than you could see
I guess the upshot of this is the S is just not that fast. It's a reasonably quick car if driven 10/10ths, but you cannot just mash the gas at any RPM and any speed and expect to pull away from cars in the low 200hp range.

Very nicely put Halo. Two things, yes, I got on the gas a split second slower than he, and yes, I bet he has more mods than I initially thought. I got on the gas slower because I was not so much trying to "dust him" as I was trying to compare what his car could do with mine. His car was loud on the engine side (intake) and the exhaust side (high flow cat-back). Not to mention he was lowered with a couple tasteful stickers on the his windows. Maybe I'm going too far to say this but I take this as a sign of atleast some maturity. (The car wasn't exagerrated in any way for example: dragging on the ground, 20" rims, extremely loud pipe, etc.) He was also very respectful in his driving. Therefore, it really wouldn't surprise me if he had some high po cams/cam gears, ignition, header, chip, etc.
And the upshot part....I couldn't agree more. Especially when we have only 150ftlbs. of torque. The car has to be DRIVEN, and driven well to perform at its potential.
