i-VTEC is a more recent development and, in theory, will give better efficiency. However, the 2L i-VTEC engine in the Civic Si still doesn't make the power of the 'old' 2L VTEC F20c in the S2000. Sure, sure, you could probably get there with the proverbial bolt-ons, but the point is, the 'old' F20c is still a pretty impressive piece of engineering.
