As far as taking matters into my own hands, I check on my car a few times an evening from my bedroom window.. my cars parked about 10 feet from my front door. Thankfully, where I live, has a very low crime rate.
I agree with you, it all depends on where you live.

Like s2kx2 said, if I ever catch anyone trying to steal what I worked hard for, I will take matters into my own hands.
