TSB is technical service bulletin and here is how you can tell it's not the heat shield. It only and I mean only occurs between 4 and 3 thousand RPM with the foot off the gas (decelerating) soon as you touch the gas it stoppes or if you depress the clutch it stops. Heat shield usually will rattle under more then just this one particular circumstance. The throw out bearing typically makes some noise when you activate the clutch. Typically I believe when the clutch petal is depressed disengaging the clutch. The TSB describes this problem so precisely its obvious that this has occurred to the point that they know the cause and cure for it. The rattle comes from under the dash and is transmitted back thru the transmission tunnel to the back of the car. I believe the sound that is heard is the exhaust knocking against the car but I am not certain. I have no idea what clutch is used to correct but it has stronger springs which dampen the movement in the transmission which prevents the backlash. Once the backlash is held in check this cures the problem. I really can't tell you more then I know. But Honda is very much aware of this issue and if your car experiencing the same symptoms I think I can pretty well tell you the problem is ultimately corrected by swaping out the clutch disc. This is not to say that some people don't have actual transmission problems or that heat shields are not a rattlin as well but if it happens exactly as I have described my problem the solution as unlikely as it sounds is to replace the clutch. Honda says so, and it fixed my car. Hope this helps clarify. John H
