I drove a bunch of them before buying and I did not see a lot of difference between the earlier cars and the later cars as far as performance. I bought a car based on condition and price and ended up buying a year 2000 car but really think I would have been just as happy with the later car as well. I enjoy the handling of the car and rarely red line the engine. I would certainly drive several and get a feel for them. I found some differences between cars . Some just seemed to me to drive "nicer" then others. Very subjective I know but I drove one in particular that just was not up to the standards of the others. Can't say I could put my figure on anything particularly wrong but I just did not like that car as well as others I drove. The dealer said that he had three S 2000 cars and the other two sold first so he admitted that the car was not the first choice of the other buyers either. So drive as many as you can. John
