The only thing about the Honda bulletin that makes any sense is their note that the factory fill oil has some "special additive". Apparantly Honda doesn't put "just" oil in the crankcase at the factory. If that is the case then don't use synthetic until they tell you to. But otherwise synthetics are safe to use in the crankcase as soon as the engine is first bolted together.

Lethander, as far as which oil you "should" use, you are thinking too much about this. Its as if you fear if you use the "wrong" oil your engine will fall appart. Honda oil, Mobil-1, Halvoline, Red Line. Any quality motor oil, with a Honda filter, changed regularly, you will be fine.
