last time i checked drifting wasnt street racing. I hate fast and the furious and its sequels. It ruined the automotive world. Let me go get some neons on my s2000 and we can drift errrr street race itll be fun

well etc is one of my favorite bands e town concrete so yes I suppose I know what that is.

There are a ton of street racing websites out there if you google. I dont mind racing on the street I built a car where thats pretty much its only purpose besides being fun to drive.

What I dont like is street racing when its like 500 people that shut down a road. I dont like how all the ricers destroyed street racing. It a more dangerous environment thanks to fast and the furious a bunch of ricers standing 2 feet from launching cars, Spoiled little brats that dont know how to drive Ive been to philly street races and the people there are jokes Buncha gangsters with tokyo drift in their dvd player in their stock civics. Ashame

 

the way i see that the movie ruined things is with everone throwing a huge spoiler on there caviler and adding stickers and neon lights to there cars........and that movie tokyo drift set it off for a new american motor sport do you guys hate that to?

 

I live in SOCAL and you can't drive a mile without some punkass kid in a Civic with a three foot wing and a huge fart can on the back wanting to race you GRRRRRR

i guess there werent drift comps before tokyo drift in the us? See this is why those movies destroyed the automotive world. You seem to think the movie created a new sport in america except its been going on for years here. Before the movie came out there were competitions and drifting schools. It actually didnt make drift comps that much more popular. What it did do is all the people that dont have a clue about what really goes on think the movies awesome then they attempt the stuff from the movie and crash. The only good news about all this is that I can watch video after video of tool bags crashing their cars now.

If you want to race, GO TO A RACE TRACK!

 

If you choose to race on the street which you shouldn't (we're all probably guilty of it, to an extent) make sure it's one of the roads your most familiar with that doesn't have crosstraffic, streetlights, residences, etc. Interference and driver error is the problem. Avoid driving side by side and maintain your line. Never go to the streetraces. They'll take your car, even for watching it's still illegal (in California). I know people who found that out the hard way.
Not to say you shouldn't have some fun when the right car comes along (don't race anything you don't have respect for and know you can beat) and the conditions are right, but you really do have to pick and choose your fights. For the cop factor and the safety factor.

 

Street racing. Boring like drag racing, only slower.

 

boring to watch perhaps but definetely not boring. I've never been into the staged street race but those good random battles we all come across can be fun and harmless in the right situation. Street racing is an adrenaline rush, whether it's right or wrong is a different issue. Who's not impressed with a race car that can do the 1/4 mile in 4 1/2 seconds at over 330 mph? Not saying I could watch it all day but WOW. Not boring.

I geuss I just try and respect ALL forms of racing whether I'm really into it (F1, WRC-damn you Speed!, Speed series, Lemans, Rolex, SCCA, or other road race series, AMA Superbike etc., FIM, and MOTO GP) or not into it (Nascar and all oval racing) because they are still car guys and girls with a passion doing something that in turn benefits us, the consumer. Without their priceless data collection and experience you can bet there wouldn't be an S2000 or any car we'd want for that matter.

 

Simply takin' Stewie through a familiar stretch of unpopulated twisty, but public road at a good clip is one thing. Yeah it carries risk n' the responsibility that comes with takin' that risk.
But takin' that same situation n' wickin' it up a hundredfold by addin' a second car that's vyin' for the lead at each opportunity? Even in a straight line. The speed involved plus the populated areas involved plus the multitude of things that could go wrong durin' any point of the proceedin's? You godda be @*#&in' kiddin' me. So who is it that's gonna take the rap n' the nightmares for the rest of your life when you take out kids in a crowd r' a mom n' kids aroun' the next corner?
We're all given our own leashes. Draw the attention of the powers-that-be by reckless endangerment n' those leashes (n' the freedom) r' forcibly taken away from us n' are placed in the hands of some government agency.
Good things that have been enjoyed by many have been ruined by the mindless few throughout the years. You wanna blow it for all of us, you go right on "street-racin'".

But, be advised: street racin's manner of determinin' the "winner" is a kind'a vague, hit-n'-miss affair. Track racin don't leave room for any "fudge" factor. It'll put you in your place in a heartbeat.

Don't get me wrong. It would be hypocritical for me to say that I haven't had a little too much fun on occasion. But the very idea of organized street racing, or going out specifically looking for people to race on public roads is hazardous and pointless. Why not just take it to a track, where you can prove you can beat someone? Then there's the highway racing. When you race from a roll, it's a completely arbitrary contest. It doesn't involve driver skill at all. It's simply who has more power.

 

I agree, I was simply stating that it's far from boring.
I don't go looking for races, I've never even dumped my clutch. I would love to go to a track, and I've never raced anybody on the freeway. But I have had cars try and follow me on my drives. that's as close as I come to racing on the street.
Street racing will never stop. So, why not give them some safety advice, rather than just telling them to go to a track (and, you're right we all should) which won't happen. It's like giving your kid condoms so that he/she can protect themselves, opposed to telling them not to do it, which won't happen.

Giving safety advice for street racing is like (pardon for playing off of your analogy) telling your son or daughter than a condom will always protect them from having kids or getting an STD. Yeah, it's safer, but even if you're safe all the time, it isn't always 100% effective.

If someone absolutely has to street race, they should do it in an industrial area, late at night, so when they flip their car 4 times or hit a power pole at 100mph, they have a smaller chance of hurting an innocent person.

Like I said, it would be hypocritical of me to say I've never taken things further than I should have on public roads. I'm by no means perfect. Not even close. But there are lines a sensible driver should know not to cross, both figuratively and literally.

 

so you're saying not to give any advice at all? I never said my advice was %100 effective or the condoms for that matter, I figured it was obvious. To do that would be to really send them to their death. I never said to go streetrace. far from it. And how is giving safety advice on street racing a bad thing? I know it's not always effective, duh. but maybe it'll help somebody. So, I'll say it again..don't streetrace.

 

I've got to agree with you Scott: there are lines a sensible driver should know not to cross. Unfortunately, not all drivers are sensible drivers, and for those few, when the pendulum swings, we're all going to suffer.
Is there any one of us that really believes that nobody in some government office is paying attention to this "street-racing", just waiting for it to provide the final incident so some "save-the-people-from-themselves" agency can come down on, not just the "street-racers" but hot-rodders, car collectors, sports car and muscle car fans?
I know I'm always going on about holding your own leash, but let me put it as plainly as I can: if we don't police ourselves, you can bet the difference between an econobox and any of our hot-rods that someone's going to provide policing for us. And that difference between an econobox and our hot-rods is exactly what the "street-racers" are wagering. Only when the collector comes for payment we're all gonna get our knees broke.

Actually, here in Florida, they have already taken steps to crack down on street racing.

Example, the penalty if you get caught street racing is now more severe than if you get caught driving drunk. Is that unreasonable? Most definitely. But it's because so many people were crashing their cars, hurting innocent people, and otherwise remaining in the general public's view.


bladerunner, it's not that I don't think it's a good idea to teach people right from wrong. but the better idea is to try and persuade people to just do it less or not at all. There's a safe way and an unsafe way to run with the bulls. But no matter how safe you are, that chance of getting the horns in your *** is still there no matter what.

I think the problem is mostly puttin' an older head on younger shoulders. Most of the time those that think themselves invulnerable n' invinceable consider the words of the scarred up veteran jus' so much noise. 'Fraid it's been that way since the dawn'a time.
