The following refers to Laurel Canyon Blvd., Studio City, California, south bound direction, heading from Studio City over the hill into Hollywood. This is a surface street, not a freeway.

When traffic allows, I enjoy going through Laurel Canyon at a brisk pace, but I've noticed that the cops have a new gimmick. It used to be that there was a motorcycle cop with a radar gun. He'd be in a driveway on the west side of the street. Now, two L.A.P.D. in a squad car are setting up just beyond one of the bends. One cop stands practically in the road with a radar gun and pops you as you come around the curve. They are young cops and they appear to have some anger management issues. Expect a ticket and a lecture about "public safety."

The boys in blue are turning up the heat this season, so let's be careful out there.
