I have the same wheels as GoMarlin3 but I think he paid less since I ordered mine from the factory. I like a clean look with a little lower profile appearance than than stock so I lowered my S about 1" or so. I elected to replace my stock 17 and 17.5 wheels with 18" all around. The size rims I elected to go with was 18x8.0 +51 offset F and 18x9.0 +60 offset R. I believe that you will find that many of the newer model 18" wheels weigh the same or in some cases even lighter than the stock 17" wheels. They are not inexpensive however.
Since I only lowered my car by 1" or so, I elected for the following sizes of tires: 225/40-18 F and 255/35-18 R. I need a little wider rear tire and the enhanced grip since my engine generates over 400 rhp and the wider tire helps from swapping ends and we all know is a trait associated with our S2ks. The size wheels, tires and the lowering were coordinated to ensure that the car maintained its full perfomance and handling characteristics and no rubbing occurs during hard cornering and driving over speed bumps/humps.
Everyone has their own idea as to how they want their car to look. You want to be proud of its appearance but not degrade any of its performance or handling characteristics. In my humble opinion, my car is the best looking one around since it is silver instead of Black. Sorry Marlin, I could not resist that one! If you examine Marlin's car, you will notice that he may have lowered his car a just a tad more than 1", but the overall effect is the same in terms of achieving a more aggressive appearance but still understated to enhance the beauty of the car's design without overdoing it. I only mention that since his offsets are just a tad higher than mine which would accomodate a lower profile suspension. Finally, whatever you decide, make sure that the overall system fit stays within the stock specs for perfoemance and handling and avoid any set up that would make your tires rub.
Good luck.
