I'll grant that the key making is easy enough. But what two-bit car thief is going to scout out your car and your life enough to know where the car will be when he wants to steal it? Is he going to watch your house for a week, then make the key, then come back and, if it's there, steal it? You see what I mean? That's a lot harder than, say, seeing some rich guy on the street by chance, robbing the guy and taking off.
On the other hand, your neighbor's know what you have and they know your habits . . . It would be a cinch for your neighbors to get your VIN and do the deed.
