thinking of getting 2005/06 s2k
hey all!. I currently have a 2002 audi ttquattro roadster. Warrenty up pretty soon,, been having minor issues all the time now as car gets older. Been a fan of s2k for a while.... Im in NY and not too sure if the s2k can handle the snow out here... Anyone use theirs as daily car and drive it in snow/rain?>??
Also.. what is the true 0-60 time.. I know it lacks low torque, what would be some good easy mods to give it a little more on the low range. thanks! all |

RWD car - not very good in snow (unless you like lots of oversteer).
There are some members who use snow tires (Blizzaks?). Plenty of us drive it as a daily driver and in the rain. The thing to remmeber in the rain is to make sure you have got osme good all round performance tires, or not low on tread on the stock summer only tires. Also to go easy on the throttle in the rain. True 0-60....varies according to how hard you want to launch the car. There is a difference between low engine torque and acceleration. For a daily driver some members recommend changing the diff ratio to something like 4.77 gears. This effectively lowers the whole gearing of the car allowing for quicker acceleration from a standstill. While it does lack torque compared to a big V8. The car also weighs a lot less than most V8s. The only mod I can recommend for low end torque is a turbo. |

I'd agree with Matt on this. Tires and Gears are the way to go.
1) Tires will help with Snow driving 2) Gears are the best bang for the buck mod. |

Hi Jam;
I've only got a few months with Stewie as a "kinda" daily driver as I spend (especially lately with our fuel prices climbing as we speak) most of my dry weather time on a bike; motorized type, one each. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I'm planning on using it through our New York winter, except in those cases when the roads are covered with those foot-high, rock-hard, sharp-edged chunks of refrozen slush that cover our roadways for days after a snowfall. When it comes to those conditions, I see no reason to impact test my chin plastic and chance hanging our low-bellied little friend up on ice-piles. The New York area can be rough in the winter. Despite our best intentions a utility suspensioned back-up unit is adviseable for the nasty stuff. Without a doubt, one of the best, and most fun, attributes of the rear-wheel drive, manual shift vehicle is the ability to hang out your tail at will, and "power-steer", a trait amplified by anything that lessens your ability to maintain traction; read: bad weather. I think you'll find it a more involving and interesting drive than the Quattro. But to give it a fighting chance in the winter I plan on setting it up with Blizzaks. I don't think that recommendation could have anything but positive results. Be well. |

I stand corrected Jam: the tires recommended by the good folks (Dallas actually) at the TireRack were Dunlop SP WinterSports. I haven't had been able to mount them yet, but I'll advise of their abilities when I do. They do appear to have the ability to assist me in my power-steerin' endeavors. Hoo-aaah! A good time will be had by all!
Be well. |
