Brake question?
I am taking my brakes off and replacing them with new ones but i have a problem with the the brake piston. When i put the new pads on the brake does fit and i can't seem to make the piston go back to make room. Can anyone help me with this problem the help is most appreciated.

A "C" clamp placed squarely over the piston will convince it that it's time to retract. Just don't get carried away and sink it back further than necessary. All you need is the clearance for the new pad and the rotor. Get carried away in you efforts and you're looking at unnecessary problems. Also, if your pads are being replaced because of considerable wear, remember to pop the cap on the resevoir and place a clean, absorbant rag there to take any overflow of brake fluid that will be displaced when you push the pistons back. If you've gotten the car serviced and the fluid was down a bit, some well-meaning mech may have topped it up, in which case your pushing the pistons back is going to cause the extra fluid to leave a trail like a paint-eating slug. Don't forget the rag. Be well. |
