Assuming you're talking about quarter mile:

Nothing conclusive has come out of S2ki about ANY years being 'faster' than any others. This includes claims that because of gearing and slightly increased torque AP2s ('04 on) get consistently lower quarter times than AP1s. Never been borne out by timeslips or lap times in any sort of controlled way. (A controlled way would be the same driver, at the same track driving cars of 2 MYs back to back doing several passes in each car).

Of course, "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

Depending on track conditions (elevation, temperature, surface) there can be as much as a 1 second and 5 miles per hour difference in ET/trap of any given car. I can imagine that a well maintained 03 might be faster than an 04 that was abused, or an 01 that has 100K miles.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the AP2 does have a mechanism to create a so-called 'clutch delay' that slows the engagement of the clutch if you speed shift. This was done to protect the drivetrain components downstream. However, it can be disabled, do a search on S2ki.com to find out how.

I think MY03 would actually be a good choice. It was the last year of the F20c engine so you still get the 9K redline and with it the more aggressive suspension and the fun (or dangerous depending on your perspective) oversteer tendencies. Plus, pretty much all the kinks of the earlier MY's were worked out (glass rear window, better stereo, upgraded oil jet bolts).
