Would you buy an s2000 for your wife

How safe is this car, heard some horror storys about the back end.

would you want your wife to drive it.

live on the south coast of england.

not much snow but loads of damp roads and rain.

I have ?15,000 to spend on the car or another.

we both love the car but Iam unsure about its saftey.

she is no racing car driver, just wants to look good.

I drove the s2000 loved everthing about it. but it will only be at weekends for me......

any help please people..........

If she's not much of a driver n' jus' wants to look good, doff a chauffeur's cap n' take 'er where she wants to go. She gets to impress n' you get to drive the Stewie.
The safety involved is not the car's, but the driver's. I would be very concerned about someone drivin' an S2000 in the weather conditions you describe if they don't have a real interest in drivin'.
And if she IS really interested, who knows? You might have a real competitor for the pilot's seat on your hands. 'Whole different kinda problem, that.
Be well n' good luck.

thanks dude, I think iam going to book her on a course before i buy.

If she likes great if not Another car with traction control.

She wants a soft top with performance.

But i want her to be safe

and without traction control Iam not sure

Ahhh . . you wanna be "sure". Ain't no such thing. "Reasonably sure" is about as good as it gets. But I can understand your dilemma.
The course sounds like a real good idea, but I still gotta go with the chauffeur's cap. The course just might initiate the fightin' for the pilot's seat problem. That'd be a helluva price to pay.
Be well.

Re: Would you buy an s2000 for your wife

I have "S2000 2004" in Turkey. It can be dangerous for a woman if does not have any quality to drive 240Hp in rain... I think it is better to take a cap for your wife...

From the Edmunds website:
Quote:
Safety:
Fitting its minimalist theme, the S2000 lacks some of the latest safety features, such as stability control, traction control and side airbags. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard, though. The Honda S2000 scored well in government crash tests, earning four stars (out of a best score of five) for protection against frontal impacts and five stars for side impacts.
That seems like a good safety rating, considering the type of automobile. As far as it being rear-wheel-drive, I don't consider that a significant problem for merely wet conditions. I wouldn't choose rear-drive for snow travel though, with or without traction control.

To answer your title question, would I buy one for my wife? The answer is no. Let her buy her own.

s2000 can be very tricky... and it full of surprises if you don?t know how to drive it... I used to drive an Prelude 5gen and that thing is a tank! If you want your wife to be safe get her an SUV... I gave my daily driver which is 2004 TrailBlazer to my mom since I have a little brother... the SUV do rock!

It depends on what she wants in a car. If it's a "cute little 2 seater" she wants, I would direct her towards a Miata. An S2000 is an enthusiast's car as we know, so the people driving them are usually driving them for their specific technological and performance based attributes. It's my experience that most ladies really aren't concerned with those things and those things are part of the reason we all had to pay what we did for the machine. If the driver isn't even aware of what the significance is of a 9,000 RPM rev limit, the most HP per liter of ANY production car and Porsche-like handling (to name a few) then I would say a lot of the invested $$ are going to waste.

Let's look at safety: Bottom line is that we all know the S2K was not built to cart baby around town or withstand a hard collision. The low profile of the car also makes it very difficult to see in someone's blindspot, which I think is the biggest danger.

Good luck

rain+female driver setting your self up for failure i live in NORTHERN CALIFORINIA and when it does rain i leave my s2k in the garage it is tooo scary with that rwd and no traction controll i am a excellent driver but i just do not want to take the risk of spinning out, these cars have tons of power no TCS and very light they will spin even during a regular everyday manuver why not put your wife in an audi TT awd or 1.8t B6 or the new 2.0T awd drive much safe for that type of weather and area also extremely stylish

just my .02 cents

Wampa - similar to my post mate, and I'm Manchester Uk so don't be telling me anything about rain! lol

You'll be glad to hear that the 06 now has TC. Without ths I was very concerned, with it I feel reassured though I still reckon you could get out of shape fairly easily.

Unfortunately 15k isn't going to get you an 06 - sorry mate. (

No doubt you read my post too.

Hi all you hubbies, I am "a wife" and I have an S2000. Fabulous fun, great to drive in the dry, overtaking whenever I can, extremely safely because the power gets me out of any trouble (normally boyracers having a go).
When it rains I drive with RESPECT - take it easy on the bends, make sure I am in the right gear, pay attention to road surfaces and not to the shops. The only time the back end has slipped out is when (ashamed face here) I let the rear tyre tread get too low - that taught me a good lesson. And boy how it went!
My only word of caution is this - there just is no room for a passenger (hubby) and a handbag....
And my word of advice - if you want it, go for it. You wont regret it.
Second word of advice - move to a sunny country!
