Questions Eric: mileage?; original owner?; engine/electrical mods? . . 'jus off the top'a my head. You'll be visited by three spirits . . er, site brethren that will probably have more questions. Diagnosin' over the net . . who'd'a thunk it?
Be well.

Coil packs? Plug wires? Those would be the things I'd check first.

Ignition system.

Check the plugs, The coil Packs. Fuel System...
Does it feel like it's missing? (rough idle)
Are they Temporary or Permanent codes?

One other question is what year is your S? The early models had a product update on the spark plugs for this same reason. I worked as a Honda Service Advisor for 5yrs and another thing we found is that short driving trips load the fuel and tend to cause the same thing. Our experience was when taking the cars from the front lot and parking them inside/in back for the night. The constant short trips eventually started making the light come on. The first time this happened led me to my first S2k driving experience......Technician told me to take it out on my lunch brake and drive the hell out of it. So I took the window sticker out, put the top back and cruised on over to the local yuppie hot spot to try and snag some attention.... 5 yrs later I finally talked myself into buying one. Sorry for straying off topic...bottom line, if it is an early model call your dealer and let them run the vin for recalls. Second, drive the hell out of it. No pussy-footin around.

I had that for a few days last month. Turned out to be the gas cap. Even though you may get it on properly, it still takes a couple DAYS worth of driving for the light to come off. The manual says 3 drives, but it turned out to be more for me.

That is IF that's your problem, which hopefully it is.

Good luck.

You may also want to contact a dealer on this matter as well. There is a product update on certain years/vin # for the fuel neck. A deformity causes the gas cap to feel tight, but it's not...which in turn causes the check engine light to come on. I have had mine replaced already for the same reason. Laterz
