2006 S2000 vs MX5 Miata

I'm trying to decide between these two. This will not be an everyday car. I like them both and I really don't need the extra horsepower of the S2000, so I'm leaning toward the Miata, given the price. But I'm wondering if my husband will be as happy with it, even though he says he doesn't care.
Comments?

Hi Joan;
Given that you're not jumping from having driven an S2000 to an MX5 Miata, I don't think that there should be anything but smiles. There's an awful lotta fun to be had with either of them and if it's not going to be an everyday car that, to me anyway, would also make me lean towards the Miata.
Good luck either way.

Hiya,

From a mans point of view I would steer toward the styling and slightly more aggressive poise of the S2000.

I can pretty much gaurantee that the mechanics and physics of the S2000 are superior, you only need see the rave reviews for the S2000 and it's reliability for that.

Ultimately either of those cars is going to give you loads of lid-down fun on the open roads I'm sure, as which ever you choose will be because of your research and conclusion based from it - you'll be happy. The grin on your face and the bugs on your teeth will vouch for that!

Good luck.

Hey .
In terms of performance S2000 is the one, but anything else beside performance it will be the new miata. Why ? b/c better interior, great looking, well equipted nice hardtop and reasonable price!! either one is a great choice!!!!

I test drove the new MX-5 Miata before buying an S2000. Each car had things that I liked and disliked. You won't find these things until you test drive them also. Here are some things I noticed so you can be aware when you test drive and enter the more advanced shopping stages:

* I ~loved~ the available toys on the Miata Touring edition. Keyless start, etc. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

* The Miata rode great at low speed and around town, but felt a bit "squirrely" at high interstate speed.

* The MX-5 fell short of my 200HP target.

* The MX-5 was not as well-designed in the feet area. For instance, with the seat positioned back far enough that my left foot was flat on the footrest, I couldn't fully reach the pedals.

* The S2000 has a power roof! Very cool.

* The MX-5 interior color is black, black, and more black. The S2000 has an optional blue leather interior - very cool.

* New vs. used was an issue - with my budget I could have bought a new MX-5, or a used S2000.

* Although some slight design changes in the body were introduced on the new MX-5, the S2000 is a better looking car.

* Wife likes the big red start button on the S2000.

There are also far fewer S2000 vehicles on the road than Miatas. The Miata is the best-selling two-seater of all time. Good or bad depending on your viewpoint.

I also looked at a used BMW Z3, the new Pontiac Solstice, and the Nissan 350Z before deciding on a used S2000. My advice, don't be in a rush to buy, and spend plenty of time looking at every car that even remotely interests you.

Happy Shopping,
Bob

I'd like to hear what the responses are at the Miata (err, excuse me, now MX5) site to the same question?

i too faced the same wrenching decision before i finally chose a used s2000 over a new MX-5. I felt the S2000 had a higher quality interior and tighter chassis. The clincher for me was when i took the engine to its 9000 rpm redline in 1st and 2nd gear. Once you hear the S2000's engine wail like an F1 banshee, you can't possibly go back to the miata and be satisfied with its 170hp, 6500rpm engine. Where the miata redlines, the S2000 is just getting started. Hands down, the S2000 is as close as i'll get to owning a motorcycle.

2006 S2000 vs MX5 Miata

My wife went through this same process last spring. After several test drives at many dealerships, she finally went with a Suzuka Blue S2000. Make sure you drive each one at least 3 times, and try to do it the same day. My wife prefered the S2000 for the handling quality and pure fun. The Miata is a great car. Her winter car is a Mazda MX6. We really respect the Mazda product. But everyone has a MX5 Miata. The Honda is rare, turns heads, sounds great, looks even better. She didn't think that the extra power was important, but is now very happy she has it.
Also, I don't have to worry about some young guy messing with her. "They just can't catch her"!
Her comment, the Miata is a girls car. That suits me just fine, for the few times I really get to drive it.

enjoy!

Unless they're driving a SRT4, Altima, G35, or any number of unassuming cars that can more than keep up with the S in a straight line.
