Rear brakes lock up

Guys

I keep getting the drivers side rear brake locking up. Is this a know issue with the Honda s2000 (2000year). This is the second time this has happened, the first time I had taken the whole thing apart reconditioned it and replaced. (did you know that is the same caliper as the Rover 25).

Should I replace the caliper or try and fix it again??

Any help on this matter would be great full.

Thanks

Si,

What do you mean by locking up?

You're driving along and one of the rear brakes just seizes?

Or, you slam on the brakes, inducing a rear tire to skid and the ABS comes on?

Or, you slam on the brakes and the rear tire skids but the ABS doesn't come on as it's supposed to.

If it's #1 there is probably something wrong between the master cylinder and brake pads (including caliper).

If it's #2 you need new tires.

If it's #3 there is something wrong with the ABS sensor on that wheel or the wiring between the ABS computer and that wheel.\

But, this is not a known issue with the S2000 AFAIK.

The problem is, that the rear drivers side brake is stuck on. There is a nasty burning smell and the alloy is very hot.

I am looking to purchase a new rear brake off an 04 model - will it fit???

Yes, it will fit, the brakes haven't changed over the years.

However, have you investigated WHY it is staying on. If it's just a warped rotor or a defective caliper then changing these parts are the solution. But if it's something upstream of those parts...
