comptech supercharger vs ultimate racing turbo
need some advice people im looking to add more power into my 01 s2k. right now im looking either the comptech supercharger or the ultimate racing turbo kit. the price is more or less about the same and i know the difference from a supercharger from a turbo kit. i want to know what would you prefer and why. right now im leaning more towards the turbo kit because of the overall better performance and less stress on the engine but the supercharger is also appealing because it doesnt have the lag like a turbo does. what do you guys think?

You have already posted the same question on s2ki.
In summary - Turbo kit with properly sized turbo should come on full boost sooner compared to Comptech/Vortech. Torque curve flatter overall. A dyno chart comparison of these is posted on the ultimate racing website. Comptech/Vortech s/c kit torque curve resembles stock curve but higher figures. Drives more like a stock s2000 with greater power. Below approx 3000 rpm there will probably be a net drain on engine power, and may make daily driving worse. Comptech/Vortech kits are CARB certified. I'm not sure if the turbo kit is, or if it applies to your area. There are also some other non-centrifugal supercharger kits in development: BRP performance supercharger Axialflow These should end up giving the low rpm grunt that the comptech/vortech kits do not give. |

Those positive displacement SC's have been 'in development' for as long as the car has been around. I wouldn't sit around waiting for one to come into production.
To get a turbo running safely, will cost considerably more than a bolt on SC. Unless you are going to run very low boost (and why would you do that?), you will need engine management and plenty of tuning time. Tuning time, unless you have your own shop, adds up fast. Money is no object, I'd go turbo hands down. If you just want to bolt something up, get a quick dyno run in to check your A/F, maybe change to 1 step colder plugs, and forget about it. The Comptech and Vortech setups are the way to go. You don't need external engine managment, bigger injectors, or any other mods. I have about 7,000 miles on my CT and no issues. However, it only took about a month to get used to the power and want more |

Don't compare these kits back to back on the basis of maximum power alone. You must take into account the entire powerband. I can't tell you how many threads I've seen on S2KI about users being dissapointed with the centrifugal kits. Check my thread out: http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=364586 Two+ pages with some really good info. |

It's good to see someone finally pulled it off. If only it had been available 3 years ago!
One of the big selling points to me was that by the time I got the CT, it was a proven kit without too much headache. I'd be a little nervous using my car as a guinea pig until there's a few cars with a few thousand miles running around reporting no major issues. I realize that this isn't BRP's first foray into SCing, but some problems can take a while to manifest. |

who ever says that turbo are less stressful on the motor have been painfully ill advised... the SC is way safer and reliable... for now if you want to look at turbo's, go to lovefab.com, by far the most groundbreaking company for S2k's, i have the GT1 kit and it puts down amazing Hp while still retaining everyday drivability, the GT2 kit is coming soon and if i were in the market for a new kit... check that out, every part included with the kit... including management and install for $9000, yea it sounds like alot but it is well worth it... im putting down 476hp and 369tq on a daily driver with now problems....
