Paint Chipping on hood...is this common with all S2000s
I noticed that I have been getting paint chips from the road debris in the front of my hood and bumber. Is this a common problem or am I alone in this. My friend tells me that in order for Japanese auto makers to get tax credits on their imports, they use a water based EPA-ok paint that is not as durable as American automanufactures paint.
I am about to paint the entire hood and bumper and put a clear bra to fix it...just wanted to make sure Iam not wasting my money.... Can anyone help...thanks. |

I have them I received a MONSTER one off of a truck on the way home from SacS2KDays 3 and bought a nose mask the next day. I actually had time to watch the rock fall off of the truck and bounce twice before plowing into the car. Hard to do anything at 80 miles per hour on interstate 80 in traffic though.

No chips on my '02, but it has the clear protectant sheet. Might be something to consider. And hopefully someone knows what the "clear protectant sheet" is really called.

Bob i think you are reffering to the 3M stone guard protectant sheet, but it is only good for the bumper, not the hood isn't ? or they have it for the hood as well ? and even we got one, maybe no one knows how to put them on properly.

It's like a clear stick-on car bra. It's just like the 3M product, but since it was already installed on the car I don't really know if it's 3M or perhaps another brand.
It covers the entire front section of the car, stopping about mid-way up the hood. There are small pieces that cover the mirrors too. After a quick Google search, I reasonably confident that this is the product that's on my S2000: http://www.automotivearticles.com/12...r_Bra_3M.shtml -Bob |
