Oil

I have a 2002 s2000 which has 6200.miles on it. It is a 3rd vehicle, so it doesn't get driven every day. I took it in to the honda dealer because it all the sudden started to rattle in what I thought was the exhaust. On the way to the dealership the car stoped running, after towing to the dealership, they are now saying that I ran the car out of oil and I now need a new engine. The boomer part is there saying it's not under warranty.

MY QUESTION: HAs anyone had problems with there car burning oil? And wouldn't my check engine light come on if the oil was empty? and wouldn't the car not run if there was no oil in it when the rattle began not allow me to drive and then stop all the sudden?

Any help is greatly appreciated

So Sad

Usually in most cars, by the time the oil light comes on, it is already too late. From what you have described, it sound very much like it has run out of oil.

It does say in your owners manual to check oil every time you fill up.

The S2000 is a very high performance engine and the nature of the beast is that they use more oil. I have had my '03 for 6 months and just turned 10'000mi, I check the oil every time I fuel up and for the first 5k mi I was putting in .5qt of oil about every other time I put fuel in.

I had a bad expearience last time I had my oil changed, when I got home, luckly I washed it because when I was drying my car I opened the hood and the Oil cap was sitting on top of the engine (I'm amazed it didn't fall off) and there was oil everywere , I have a 150 mile drive home form the dealer and I I lost about 1-1.5 quarts . I feel pertty lucky to have found it and I'm still pretty pissed off.

S2000 Oil and tuneupz

Speaking of Oil, My firend just bought a S2000. I told him not to, but he was stubborn about it. It was $16,500 for the 2001 model. 60-sumpthin,G miles.

Since he and I dont know too much about S2000, let alone hondas (I'ma Toyota guy ), can you help us out? Basically I would like to know, although the manual says to change this-and-thats at specific miles, you and I both know that enthusiasts change oil, plugs, fluids, etc., before they are due (cause we drive hard!)... The car has been serviced at its intervals, but the owner told my friend to change the oil soon (in 4000 miles), it supposably has 30% clutch and brakes.., it has its stock plugs form the factory (never changed), etc., Should he take it to the dealership? Or should we do it ourselves? What type and brand of oil do S2000 enthus's use the most? Spark Plugs? Should stock brake pads do the job or should he go for a wilwood/brembo/spoon kit? No racing, just hard driving/spirited runs throught the hills

Later and thanks,

Sorry for what happen to your S2000!!! When was the last oil change? The S2000's have been known to consume some oil so owners should check the level between oil changes frequently. I also have a '02 S2000 as a third car. It has 7500 miles and I change oil every 6 months or around 3750 miles.

Honda S2000 is build to burn some oil, if you take you car to red line often, you will notice losing oil. honda said "buring 1qt in 800mi is normal" so please don't worry about it. just check the oil everytime you fill up. it will be fine.
