Tire suggestions?

Just got 2002 S2K and rear tires are at the end of their life. Which brand/model of the tire do you guys prefer for spirited driving(not track use though)? Any recommendations? Thank you!

Dmitry

Well, if you can get the S02s at tirerack (they sell the correct size S02 for this car, which is actually wider than the claimed 225 would suggest).

Otherwise S03s are a good alternative. It doesn't get much stickier than these 2 options for street tires (which is also why they wear out so fast )

did you read the article?

"The handling of the S2000 can become "snappy and unpredictable" unless fitted with the Bridgestone tyres recommended by Honda. At least one UK driver is seeking legal advice after a crash involving an S2000 fitted with the incorrect tyre."

"Honda's service bulletin says that this internal difference means that "no alternatives are recommended ... use of the Bridgestone Potenza S02 Pole Position or Bridgestone S02 can adversely affect the handling" of the S2000."

Don't know why you'd risk it, but each to their own

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Hi jusm;
folks are always tryin' to blame somebody else for their own lack of attention. I'm not sellin' any one tire over another here, but the bottom line is that each tire has it's limits. The only way that you find out where those limits are is with calibrated research (a little more each attempt until you start feelin' that you're at the edge).
Too many folks go out keepin' no leash on themselves, let it all hang out without any prior experimentation, n' when the smoke clears, IF they lived through it, seek a lawyer to go after the manufacturer.
Whichever tire you go with has it's limits. Carelessly go past them without any testing n' all you are is another reason for the rest of our insurance premiums to go up.
All tires work. Some better than others. Like ol' Clint is so fond'a sayin': "a man's gotta know his limitations". Same goes for tires.
Oh, n' for the record: I'm with GoMarlins. I'm still runnin' the stock rubber.
Be well.

nice post Java.
I've done a lot of research and what I found was that the stock tyre was custom developed between Bridgestone and Honda specifically for this car..
thats rare.

Honda know what they are doing (except with that stock stereo!) and thats good enough for me... you might find stickier tyres, but there is more to it than just that. Its an all round package custom made for the vehicle.. say no more..

I'm still runnin' the stock (n' very capable to my way of thinkin') rubber, but, ya godda realize that there are very different driving styles out there and that some drivers would be more comfortable/more efficient/ feel more planted/slide more accurately on other tires n' all usin' the same car.
The stock rubber is good stuff, but I don't think that it satisfies everybody's needs all the time (I think Abe Lincoln first said that . . . . n' no. I wasn't there when he did)
Face it: if it wasn't fer the guys who were always tryin' different stuff (within reason) we'd all still be gruntin' alot n' pickin' lice out'a our crotch hair as we sat aroun' the tribal fire. (n' no. I wasn't there for that either)
Be well.
