new S2000
So I just bought myself a new white 2006 S2006.
The dealer offered to sell me this Xzilon thing that's supposed to protect everything, interior and exterior for life. Also, there's the lo-jack system that places 30 trackers in different parts of the car so the company can find my car if it's ever stolen. There's also the security system with motion sensor that activates if anyone reaches into the car while the top is down. I was wondering if anyone has anything good or bad to say about these extras before I commit to buying it. Thanks! |

Lo-jack is a good idea, as well as the security system withteh proximity sensor.
As for the "protects everything on the car" stuff, Honda has been selling it for years under different names. I have had it on some of my Honda's and not on others. I haven't ever noticed a difference on anything except the carpets. I once spilled an entire 32 oz. soda in my passanger foot well and the carpet stuff kept in from soaking in until I could pull over and use a bunch of towels to soak it up. That part of the protection worked well, but I had the car less than a year when the spill happened. I don't know how well it would work after that.

Never buy this stuff from a dealer. It is the job of the 'closer' to sell you everything under the sun after you've bought the car to pad their profits. The margins on these items are insane, compared to the relatively tight margins on cars themselves.
Anything applied to the car by the dealer is a complete waste of money (read May R&T for a great article by a former car salesman for a good laugh). Extended warranties: waste of money. On a Honda: Total waste of money. Lo-jack, alarm, etc are up to you, where you live and how much you park in shady areas. However, you can get this stuff put on after you buy the car at any time by a stereo shop, and if you shop around save a ton of money over the stealer errr... I mean dealer. |
