about my 02 s2k... the story
anyways, i picked this babe up from Robertson Honda in North Hollywood almost a month ago. After actually owning the car for a little bit, I found out that the previous owner had rims on the car (bent the inside of the fenders a little bit), and im pretty sure it was lowered. I need to replace a wheel bearing on the rear because of the humming noise that is constantly there except when I jerk the car to the right, it stop, once the car is straight starts the noise. Wheel bearing... right?
Well, I think the guy just used lowering springs to lower the car which probably messed up the struts. I hear contsant squeaking noises while driving on rought road or going over speed bumps. lets say im driving up a speed bump 5 MPG, once front tires hit the bump, i hear it, and once rear tires hit the bump, i hear it. and also its constant when im driving on rough road. its like a squeaking noise, almost sounds like something is lose. I am planning on getting TEIN coil overs for it, but I need to almost be certain that its highly possible from the struts. Anyways here is a pic of my s2k in my garage....

You can tell if the suspension was modified by looking at the 3 bolts that hold the stock coilover to the A arm (1 bolt) and chassis (2 bolts). The heads of those bolts should have zero evidence of being turned with a wrench given the age of your car. If they do, then you have your answer.
What you're describing certainly sounds like it was probably lowered and the stock shocks are toast. My first move would be to hit up the Honda dealer that sold it to you. I realize it is out of factory warranty, but dealers usually give at least a brief warranty on used cars. Might be worth a shot to at least complain to them about the noise and especially the wheel bearing issue. That said, they probably don't know what was done to the car before you bought it, so they could try to weasel out of it by saying the car was modified ... to which you could naturally reply... 'yeah but you didn't tell me about that when I bought it from you!' I wouldnt get new coilovers until I had a shop diagnose the problem. |

I tried taking it to the Honda service, and they wouldnt look at it since it passed the 30 days or 1000 50/50 warranty. idiots. anyways, you think the wheel bearing had something to do with the lowering of the car or rims? i just ordered the rear wheel bearing to have it replaced as for the shocks/struts, im not sure. i mean, it almost sounds like something is just loose. hmmm
if the struts/shocks are toast, what else should I notice? |
