Yet another thread about the soft top
Ok, I've gone over most of the threads about what to do about a 2001 damaged soft top. Convert it to the 02 top seems to be the concensus. However, I'm poor right now. The rear TPU window cracked, and I have to put something back there fast, to avoid possible interior water damage. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a temp solution for about 2 months (outside of plastic bags and tape), and it would be great to find out where I can purchase a sheet of new TPU.
Also, on that same subject, can anyone give me feedback on the carbon fiber hardtops? |

Hi Adam;
If times are a bit tight, dumpster-divin' behind the local top replacement shop might reward you with a shot top sportin' a serviceable rear window. Sure, you've still godda unstitch n' then resew it into yours, but, dependin' on just how tight things are, n' how much time you've got, it's an option. Hell! If you ask, they may just give you an old top that they removed. One neva know, do one? (N' yes. This "guy I knew's" dumpster-divin' efforts rewarded him with a very clear window that allowed him to eke out another two years r' so out'a that old top. But I do remember that I must'a stabbed myself a hundred times before it was finally sewn in) Good luck n' be well. P.S. Soak the window in hot water for a good while before installation n' do the installation in a warm area. (Whoa! What am I sayin'? You're from Texas!) |

Well, it may sound kind of ghetto, but not as much as leaving the cracked one in... Thanks Java. |

Hmm, I threw the old top in the trash when I upgraded to glass. But, I could swear there were some zippers in there that allowed the plastic window to be removed and replaced. I might be hallucinating. I'd do a search on s2ki.com for this, you might be able to get a used window off someone for cheap.

No surprise Adam, Halo's right. I failed to specify that my "friend" was workin' on an MGA top . . r' it's possible it was one of the 'Healey tops.
But if Halo thinks that there are zippers involved on Stewie, you can probably take it to the bank. Be well. |
