Transmission/synchros problem?
I have a 2001 S and recently it has been grinding and having a hard time getting into gear. It also does this weird thing, only in first gear, when you come to a stop with the clutch in and in first gear the car make a jerking movement and make a grinding noise in the center. Has anyone had to have their synchros replaced? Has Anyone heard this in their S2000? I really don't think it is the clutch, but it could be a related part like the throwout bearing or hydraulic system... Not sure though. Also, can the shift linkage be adjusted, and this has possibly moved? Thank you for any advice. I will be taking it to the dealer soon, but thought i would hear from someone who had similar problems. Thanks again.

hey ... i have the same problem. and it is covered under warranty. there is a bulletin from honda about theis problem. the syncro in 1st, 2nd has problem for my 04 so it is replaced and no cost. besides that they will also replace the gears. However after theyt replace it, it cost other problems, such as the shiter become loose, will not stay in the center in neutral etc. So make sure u find a reputable dealer around u r area. also the job will take 3 days, so u will have to pay for u r own rental car if u need one.

no i am very sorry, i have no idea if it covers the 01 s2k. And i dunno the bulletin number, however i did see that bulletin when i was at the dealer and the service advisor showed me the exact bulletin on paper. Unfortunetely i don think it covers the 01 transmission, because the problem on 04 was due to a new material for the syncro so i have no idea about urs. However if i am not wrong Honda covers the engine and transmission for 5 yrs, so if u r still within the period then don't worry too much. But one thing for sure, if u r experiecing problem going into the gears and continue to drive by forcing it in , u will end up with a bigger problem !!

well, i think i have isolated the problem last night to a sticky throw-out bearing, or sicky hydraulic system. whatever it is, it is in the clutch. The clutch is releasing late on almost every shift, kind of sticky like. Unusual though, that the pedal does not change, so I really think it is the bearing. Thanks for the help, but I'm in for the big clutch change.
