2006 vs. 2005 Changes

I'm a huge S2000 fan since they were first announced and I'm finally going to purchase an '05 this week. I have at least 3 little Maisto models at home/work I've collected over the years, so I'm pretty obssessed with them. Even my son has a little Transformer model of an S2000. Anyway, I test drove an '06 today and have been learning about the differences. I don't think they merit the amount I would save on a slightly used '05, however I wouldn't mind updating some of the features if the price is right. Would anyone know what's involved with getting the 'maintenance minder', temperature gauge and DRL's to work? It seems like some sort of chip upgrade would be all and maybe some sensors. The DRL's are supposed to be required on all 2010 cars and they probably do help get you noticed, unfortunately by the police as well. But, they do probably make one a little safer until every car gets them! It looks like just the amber lights come on is all. I realize that the drive by wire and VSA features would be pretty costly, so wouldn't consider something like that. Also, does the headrest speaker system option on the 04's & 05's require running wire from the stereo or is it pre-wired so to speak.

No engine or suspension mods, just cosmetic stuff like Red/Black Wet Okole Seat covers, enclosed rear speakers in the roll bar hoops.

DRL's: If safety is really such a concern, just turn on the headlights. Personally, I really don't care for 'safety' features that I can't have any control over.

The add on headrest speakers for the older models require wiring, but can be done either by you or the dealer. (You won't need headrest speakers, the sound of the engine is the best music you will hear )

Temp guage: I'd suggest looking at one of those add-on mirrors that has a compass, temp and HomeLink trasmitter. I'd have to check, but some have a remote for the temp gauge so it can do both exterior and interior temp.

Maintenance reminder: All cars from MY00 on have a "Maintenance required" light that comes on every 7,500 miles. Besides oil changes, there really isn't much 'maintenance' required. You can't rotate the tires, timing is via a chain. Tranny and diff fluid come around every so often, but not enough to need a dash reminder (all of this is in the manual).
In cabin microfilter... lol it's a convertible, there's going to be a lot of particles in the cabin

I think you'll be very happy with the money you saved on a 05. The 06 is creeping ever so slightly away from the original intent with VSA, no headrest holes for helmets, drive by wire etc.

Thanks Halo!

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Halo. I'll look into the mirror with gauges/homelink option, etc. That would be a nice feature. I'm really excited about being a part of this forum and hope to contribute in the future. Can't wait to pickup the '05 I mentioned this weekend. I'll post a pic later. Thanks again!
