Interior work
I got a '00 s2k. That painted metal thing that goes around the shifter is worn, some of the paint is coming off a bit. How would I go about taking it off to repaint it or replace it? I was thinking about just polishing off all the paint and keep it unfinished. It would match the shifter that way but I jsut have no idea as to how to remove it.

About takin' it off I can't help you B, 'sorry.
But the option to strip it of paint n' run it bare sounds simple n' utilitarian. N', as sportscar types . . . ain't that what we're all about? Be well.

Rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. That applied coating will come off and you get a gunmetal looking shifter sorround. Looks better than stock.
Note that this only works for 00-01. After that, the sorround was made of plastic not metal. Some folks attempted to clear these off with solvents only to destroy the finish on the plastic. |
