Which oil? Please Help

Hi guys, Got my S2K a couple of months back and it's now time for an oil change. I do all maintenance on this car myself. I wanted to see if there was any Honda preferred oil brand to use or some brand Stewie likes more than another. I already picked up a Honda filter, just need to know which oil and weight to use. Thanks guys.

Lots''a threads on the topic S2. You could start a small riot when it comes to personal preferences, but a safe bottom line is a good name-brand of the weight that mother Honda recommends'll get'cha through no problem.
Though you'll hear some tell ya that only Honda oil, poured while wearin' Honda work gloves n' torquin' the oil filler cap with a Honda torque wrench is the only way to go . . Stewie really isn't all that marque conscious.
Common sense stuff'll get'cha through.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

That's right...Full synthetic Mobil1 all the way !!!! Just changed my oil 3 day ago

0W 40

Kinda costs a bit, but it's worth it. My S2000 now purrs nicely

P.S : buy 5 litres, not 4

4 is not enough

um you might think im crzy but i put 20 50wt full synthectic just becasue i have a really heavy foot and my mechanic said it would prevent from my engine wearing out as fast and also they say its for hi reving engines too but one thing you have to let it warm up for like 5 minutes cuz it takes a while for the oil to rise

I've been told that most engine wear comes from start up before the oil gets circulated. Using a heavier viscosity oil then is recommended is not likely going to help in high speed driving and may actually work against what you are trying to prevent (engine wear). I would use the viscosity suggested by the engineers that built the engine. Mobile one in the correct viscosity for the car will certainly protect the engine at any speed why would you take a chance and go against the manual? John H

I use amsoil series 2000 0-30. It is a great oil, they also make a 10-30.

Higher viscosity is thicker then the lower viscosity. Lower viscosity is ideal for a newer engine with tigher tolerant. Higher viscosity is ideal for older engine with lower tolerant, it is also ideal for a hotter climate like Texas or turbo engine because it has a higher boiling point then the lower viscosity. Nevertheless; I am using Mobile one 10-30 synthetic

Just my 2 cents but my neighbor (Who owns a Penzoil Quick lube) uses Castrol GTX 10-30 synth on his '04. I asked him if there was any major differences between the oils and he said not really, its mostly preference and name. He prefers the synth due to the fact that synths break down slower from heat and, in the higher rpm cars, its a must. As for the 10-30/10-40 viscosity he uses the lighter viscosity in winter and the heavier in summer. (We're in Dallas). I thought it was a riot that he works for a Penzoil company and uses Castrol though....lol

Which Oil?

I asked my Houston Honda dealer to put in synthetic at the first oil change (5,500 miles or so). He put in 5W-20 synthetic - don't know the brand. Anybody ever heard of using 5W-20??

Ok... I have used Mobile 1 synthetic 10w-30 on my 2002 spa yellow, and the damn thing burns oil when revved high.

I called the honda dealer up, and they said that the Honda racing team NEVER uses synthetic on the S2k's... especially in heat, it turns to water.

So... just use regular oil!

The one problem I have with that statement is that heat will sludge regular oil MUCH FASTER than synthetic. So, it may thin out synthetic, but you're better off than with sludge. You should go with a higher viscosity instead of regular oil.

Also, most S2000's are known to burn oil.

BTW...I use Mobil 1 10w-30.

I have used Mobil1 10W30 since 10,000 miles (now at 32,000) and have never heard my valves or ever burned a drop of oil. I feel it depends on how the engine was broken in as to whether it burns oil or not.

As for hearing your valves, I would be concerned if I was you and would go have them adjusted.

I have a 2005 gpw and I spare no expenses when it comes to my baby/collection. The first thing to do is read the owner manual. Honda said to use 10w30 gasoline energy saver motor oil. If money is not a constriction in your wallet then spend some extra dollars on synthetic motor oil. Mobil 1, Castrol, Quakerstate, Pennzoil and Royal Purple are ok. ALL ARE RESPECTABLE MANUFACTURES. I use Royal purple 10w30 for engine and 75w90 Max gear for differential with possitive result and increase performance.
