Cylinder Failure
I am currently fighting with AH over the repair of myS2K. It is a 02 with under 6500 miles on it. Drove the vehicle and started hearing a tick tick tick sound while pulling on to the freeway, contact the dealership and could not get there before they closed, Next day car starts while on the way to the dealership, still has tick tick tick. Make on stop at Lexus and go to get in car and it won't start. Dead Nothing.
Tow car to dealership and 2 hours later am told not covered under warranty because car was low on oil. After logging a complaint with AH I'm still told rep decision stands, even through they have not even taken the engine apart and can't even tell me what really wrong with car. Not to mention the amount in the oil continually changes. This hole expirience with AH has been discouraging. I thought Honda 1) stood behind thier product and 2) was committed to customer service. Neither I have seen through out this expierence. When I insisted on meeting with the rep who made the call to not cover this under my warranty, I was told that unless I'm willing to assume responsiblity for the problem there really was no reason for us to meet. After threating to bring legal action against AH and the Dealership I finally got the meeting I requested. Since then I have found all this information about #4 Cylinder failure can anybody answer some questions for me 1) Does Honda know what caused the failure at this time? 2) I've read in Eruope they issued TSB does anybody know the numbers of the TSB? 3) Has the cylinder failure happen in any of the late o2 models once they changed the oil bolts to the 4hole ones? 4) When they take the engine apart what damage would indicate this failure? Sorry I'm a girl with limited car knowledge, whos learned a lot in the last 10 days that's a little confusing! 5)Does anybody know how many s2k's this has happened to? Thanks for any help and information I hope this doesn't end up in a legal battle. Silverbeauty |

Do you know how much oil was in the engine when it was towed?
Do you know when you checked the oil last? New cars can burn oil for the first 10,000 miles or so. I've heard of cars burning 1qt per 1000 miles when new. If the car is really low on oil, you will have a hard time convincing Honda that they should fix the car. You could also cross-post this to www.s2ki.com. There are a few oil & engine related threads there. --Mike |
