2003 Honda s2k
Hello
I just recently purchased a used 03 s2k and I have a couple questions/ concerns. When I turn the car on I notice as soon as I press that start button that the car shakes fairly hard for a second or two. Then the idle rpm is high and then slowly winds down. On one occasion the car idled real hard and then cut off. Does anybody else have this issue? When driving the car I notice I hear rattles in the exahust around town, on the highway this doesn't seem to be a problem. I also notice that when I'm making a turn a strange rattle seems to emit from the exahust/back of the car during the turn and then it stops once the car is straight?.. Any info would be really appriecated |

Hi -
Car shaking - not sure, could be engine mounts High idle - depending on the ambient temperature, this is probably normal (although the abrupt cut off is not) exhaust rattle - I had a similar problem with a STI - it ended up being a loose heat shield, although I've read about rattles caused by O2 sensors snapping off... |

You should carry it to honda. Its cutting of i would guess because of a safety check like it should. It may have alot of carbon built up every 15,000 mile they should be cleaned out. If that wasnt done what else hasnt ya know.

Does your start up problem occur on every start up?? My S2000 used to do this after it was sitting for awhile, I would start it then it would shutter and sometimes die. I have no idea what caused the problem, I was thinking the computer was trying to relearn. My problem hasn't occured for quite a while now. Let us know what you find.

A quickie thing you might do is to replace the spark plugs. You can do this and it is fairly inexpensive. This will eliminate them from the equation. Since you bought it used you have no idea if the previous owner has ever replaced the plugs.
If you take it to a dealer they'll probably hit you up for plugs and it will be a lot more expensive than if you do it yourself. |
