Maint Req'd HELP

Hi again guys,
I have an '01 and my Maint Req'd light came on. I just turned 60k mi. Is it b/c of the mileage or could it be something else? I like to service my car myself. I have about 1k mi left b4 my next oil change. Should I wait and do the 60k svc then or will I need to take it to the dealer. Is there any way to turn off the light w/o the dealers assistance? If so I would like to know so when I do the svc I can turn it off. Thanks for the help.

The 'main. req.' light is just a milage counter. It comes on when your odometer reaches a certain number. You can turn it off yourself (the steps are in the manual) by holding the 'trip' button on the speedometer while you turn the car on. Continue to hold the button until the blinking goes out. Turn the car off and turn it on again. The 'main. req.' light should not blink any monger. If it continues to blink, I may have the wrong button in my mind and try the other one.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I can never remember if it's the 'Select' button or the 'Trip' button, so I always just hold them both down and it seems to work.

But anyway, yes, it's just an automatic countdown based on mileage. Basically to remind you to change your oil.
