Unfortunately, I never drive with Porsche, however have tried TT 2 months.
Concerning TT, I can truly say, that exterior is very, very intresting, but interior it is the same as Kia Boxter is more expesive, that TT and S2ki I`m drive with of course S2ki and Audi A4 1.8 TQ S-line.

Read Car and Driver - Blow Dryers
Go to www.caranddriver.com and do a search on S2000. You will see an article in 2003 called "Blow Dryers" it compares the Boxter, the TT, and others to the S2000. I will not keep you in suspense. The S2000 wins first place.

The TT and 350 'vert are, in my opinion, in the same category. They are both heavier, boulevard cruisers and less track cars. Both have more comfort features, more supple rides. Neither has the steering feel of the S or the Porsche. The 350vert felt very heavy although it has plenty of torque to offset that. Not hard to drive it fast, just that it doesn't feel like a go-kart around fast corners. The TT, particularly in AWD form, is in a class by itself. Nothing looks quite like it, inside or out. If you can get over the fact that it's a parts bin car (sharing many components with Jettas, Golfs, Beetles etc), it is a unique ride.
The S and Boxter are very similar in nature. Both give you about as good feel for the road as you can get these days and a rigid chassis that was designed to be a convertible from the get-go. On paper, the S outperforms the base Boxter and is actually closer in numbers to the Boxter S. On paper. I am not one of those S owners who thinks that just because the Boxter S cost 20-30K more it is a waste of money. Personally, the name, construction details and the engine weren't worth the extra money to me. But, I can appreciate the appeal for those that want to own a Porsche. Again, I would look at the Boxter S, not the base. The Elise (which I haven't dirven) looks like it will be even more extreme ifyou want a pure track car. Very spartan, very light. It shares the advantage of the S2000 that you won't see one in every parking lot at least for the first 2-3 years after it comes out. Bit of a waiting list for them right now. |

Then, if you're still comfortable with getting a Z, test drive it, the S2000, and any other sports cars you're interested in. Hopefully, the test drive will provide you with the answer you seek. Me? The poor build/design quality of the Z finally burned me out. In the next couple of weeks I should be driving a S2000 if all goes well. |

My mom just came down to florida to visit me and my dad and she is a nissan fan. I think the only reason for that is because her nicest car was a 97 maxima 5 spd and it never had any trouble and still is in perfect condition with 145000 miles. Well she wanted to get a 350Z and I've read about them so many times and heard great things from owners but never drove one. So we went to one of the local dealers and they only had automatic Z's, so we went to another dealer and out of 7 Z cars only one was a stick but it was also the cheapest too for around 27 grand which is a pretty fair price for that car with only about 90 miles on it. Mom and the sales associate went out for a test drive and when they came back he told me where I could take it and "test it out" in a large empty parking lot (very good salesman) so I did, and I put it through tests that would measure up with the guys a motortrend. I have to say i was dissapointed overall with the quality of the interior the lack of road feel as compared to my s2k and it really didn't feel as fast as my car. Obviosly it had torque but so does my dad's car (98 bmw 540 6spd) that in a straight line to 60 or 1/4 mile is about a tie with mine and the z did not feel nearly as torquey as my dads therefore even though it had torque it didnt measure up to the 540 or the s2k. It also doesnt look nearly as good as the s2k or the boxster.
Anybody else who has an s2k drive a Z I'd like to hear what you hafta say about it. |

It definitely didn't have the road feel of the S. It is probably going to outrun the S in straight lines in street races because of the torque, because most S drivers dont want to do 6000rpm launches. Oh yeah, and before I forget... the S2000 is a convertible from the ground up. The vert Z (which I've also test driven) is no comparison.
As to the 540... it's a bit unfair to compare it to a 4L V8 for torque, but I guess any automotive comparison is basically "fair" to make in the end. |

I recommend S2000.
I think you can purchase Boxter around $23,000 for used one.
I know boxter is good for speed, but S2000 is better than boxter for handling. |

S2k vs Z roadster
Have a 2001 S2k since 6/01
Am selling it thisfall, but still keep it around for 1] my daughter to use when she is home 2] to still enjoy the handling and crisp shift that none can compare for the price however, did just get a Z roadster for replacement smoother, quieter. bigger interior isn`t quite as tight in the curves as the S2k but certainly more than adequate with regard to pure acceleration...that isn`t what either of these cars is about will always remember my time with the S2k |
