I hit a really big dip!
great... I picked up a big ass teddy bear for my gf for valentines day, as I was pulling out, I didnt see the ramp going from the building to the street, so... I was going about 15mph when I hit the ground. I scratched my whole front bumper on the bottom, and about 1" from the front... I was wondering if this probably caused any damage to the axles or anything of that sort... The car runs normal...
I just felt like it was my heart that hit the bump... it still hurts!! |

Hi wall, I know what you mean about you feelin' the pain. 'Comes with carin' strongly about somethin'.
As for damage to the "axles", not likely. Providin' you didn't bottom the chassis out n' only scraped the chin there isn't much chance'a doin' any mechanical damage. But, when in doubt, the thing to do is get 'er up in the air n' take a look-see. If you haven't got the place or equipment to put it up in the air, go get your oil changed (never hurts, right?) n' while it's up ask the mech to take a look at it with you. Cheapest way I know to get to do a walk-about under your car. Be well. Java

I agree with Java. Take a look under the car and see if you can see any other damage. Or when in doubt take it to a shop a have a tech take a look (I just hope you have honest techs). Oh, and sorry to hear about dragging the nose of your car, that sucks and I still hurt everytime I drag the front on something.

Wall, jus' wanted to say thanks.
In talkin' to you about gettin' your car up to take a look at the underbelly, I realized that I was due for a look at my own (Stewie's) so, as the ground is kind'a sloppy right now with all kind'za cold stuff, I let my pals down the garage put 'er up n' change the oil n' filter while they were at it. If not for talkin' to you aboudditt I'd'a probably jus' kept on keepin' on. So thanks. Be well. Java

no problem Java, I also noticed the alignment went off a little bit after bottoming the chassis on my s2k, it kinda steers to the right. Is it normal for the alignment to be off after hitting a big dip!?!

Yes, your alignment can be messed up from a pot hole or a big dip. I work for a auto repair shop in CO, we are suffering from huge pot holes after the last few snow storms. We are seeing a ton of alignment problems and bent rims right now.

Yeah wall, not uncommon. But don't put off gettin' it seen to. You're not doin' anythin' any favors by allowin' misalignment to continue. N' it gives you a chance to get 'er up in the air to make sure nothin' else is amiss.
N' every once in a while it don't hurt to remind yourself that you're drivin' Stewie, not your Bultaco. Be well. Java

yea i would get an alignment im a mechanic and do alignments all day, if you dont you cant rotate the tires unless you have aftermarket rims being that they are directionals (can only rotate one way) and the fact that its 2 diffrent tire sizes. youll get uneven tire wear and a rough ride or pull if you wait to long to align. and your tires will need to be replaced which isnt cheap for the price of one chepo tire you can get a 4 wheel alignment at most places. which i would get its usually 10 bux more. a 2 wheel alignment is 69.95 at my work and a 4 wheel is 79.95. so yea check your aligment every 6 months or less depending on how you drie and the road conditions.

Definitely, get a wheel alignment. I've noticed mine is rather sensitive and has been out of alignment every time I have taken it.
On a side note, a pickup truck kicked up a piece tire in the road last night just as I was changing lanes and I drilled it with the front of the car on the left side.
