Maintenance reminder for 2006 s2k

When should I get my first oil change for my car? I've been driving it for almost 3 months, and put about 2700 miles on it. Is it true the first oil that is in hondas are special oil that helps to clean out and break in your engine, so you can drive for actually 5/6 thousand miles with it? I have a 2006 S2k, and I heard there is an oil/maintenance gage that tells me when i need to change my oil. Where is it?

Change it when the 'oil life' guage tells you too.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

The light you have heard about is the Maintenance light. I'm not sure about how it is on the AP2, but on the AP1, it's a small yellow light next to the Check Engine and Cruise Control lights along the bottom of the cluster that reads "Maint Req'd".

From the time it is reset, it basically counts down to the next recommended "maintenance", such as an oil change.

The '06 and '07's have a 'oil life' guage that tells the driver how much life thier oil has left. When it say's "0", it's time to change the oil. At least that's the way I understand it.

To access it you push the trip button on the bottom right of the dash display. It will cycle through your different trip readings until you reach your oil life which is read in a %. I was told to change it when it reaches 15%, I've never let it get past 50%, but I'm crazy.

The oil in your engine is a special blend with "breakin" additives. You shouldn't change it until your gauge reads 15% or lower. I don't know why, but that's what Honda says, and they designed the thing.

On a side note, the oil life gauge isn't just a mile counter, it takes into account hours ran, RPMs etc. So you can probably trust it. . . but I dont think anyone would tell you that changing your oil more often (other than the first time) is a bad thing. Fresh oil just works better. It's cleaner. It's slicker. Gosh darn it, it's just OILIER!

The transmission on a stick shift vehicle doesn't have a dipstick. You need to pull the plug underneath and put your finger inside to check your levels.
