Honda certified or aftermarket warrenty?

I'm shopping for a S2000 and my budget is $20K so I'm looking for 03/04 (I think) Really like the idea of buying from Honda dealer to get the Honda extended warrenty but nothing in my price range. If I go for private sale can I get and extended aftermarket (not Honda) warrenty? Which ones are worth it? Can the Honda extended certified warrenty be transfered to a new owner from private sale? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks Mick

this is a common problem. aftermarket warrenties are an option but are risky. they are normaly troublesome to get claims threw and always send an inspector to try to find a reason not to pay you for the work. plus the most important thing is a certified used honda has to go threw a 152 point inspection process, has never had a panel replaced, and is like new condition. (no carfax surprises) where your aftermarket warrenty. may never seen the car. funny! but keep digging just a few more bucks and you can have your cert. s2000. i work at honda, sell hondas and non-honda cars both cert. used and cars that get the outside warrenties. also, the honda warrenty is good at any honda dealer. .. hope this helps...

Got a great deal on a '04, but not from a Honda dealer. So I went for an after market extended warranty from a company I had experience with. I have had to use their warranty on my Nissan truck and there has been no problem, the dealer handled contacting the warranty company and paper work. It was like using the original Nissan warranty. I live in Florida and there are a couple of other states that have very strict laws concerning auto warranties and companies that can do business in that state. Do a seach and alot of companies will come up, then search each company to see what kind of info. comes up on them.

I would go with Honda certified pre-owned warranty, they will give you a white card that has the vehicle Vin# and warranty coverage on it. and it's honored by every Honda dealer, just show it to them and no questions asked. plus it's real Honda warranty without the headache of fine print and all that stuff
Third party warranty can be very tricky, they will always try to avoid coverage, like every insurance company. Honda warranty is different, because the company wants to keep it's image as a reliable automaker, and such warranty is important for the company reputation in the market
I would pay the extra couple grands for a certified pre-owned.

I agree. Go with the Honda warranty. I bought mine as a private party sale, paid about $1,100 for an extended right before the factory warranty expired and it really came through when I had to replace my engine at 62k miles for oil starvation. They were originally wanted to charge me $11,000 and it wound up costing only $380 because of the warranty. If it had been a 3rd party warranty, I'm not so sure Honda would have done that.
