HI
I would like to know, if i chip my s2000 will it free up the revs a bit? Is there something out there that will make it run through the revs a bit quicker from 0 to 6000 rpm?? Many Thanks |

chip?
HI! I have a chipped S2000! Oh wait do you mean like what happened to me? Bought the car, left the dealership, driving 5 minutes down the road, landscaping truck in front of me, limb falls out of truck, smashes into my bumper and chips my paint on the bumper? Oh, you mean a computer chip, I believe they are custom made so good luck. I know a couple people that have them but they said they were all custom made.

Installing a lightened flywheel may help to build the revs quicker.
Apart from that I guess you could change gear ratios (drop even lower to accelerate quicker, but lose top speed). There is always Nitrous systems (instant power). M@ |

warranty?
Howdy, I just bought a hard top for my s2000. Its gonna be tight. But I wanted to know if I got a chip for it and installed it ourselves wouldn't that void the warranty?

why would you want to chip your S2K?
do you have a lot of NA (when I say I a lot, I mean really crazy cams or block) or turbo upgrade? If not ,don't do chip. Your engine may run too rich with the new chip. which is even slower than stock. A piggy back system(V-AFC) might just do the work. If you want your rev to go up faster, get a fly wheel from Toda. But, before that, I would suggest you get some exhaust system. |

Taken from the POWERCHIP wesbite:
--------- Your Honda S2000 2.0 uses an ECU which features an embedded processor rather than a normal chip or EPROM which means that your car does not use a chip that can be modified. The Powerchip upgrade for your car is an additional computer which alters the ignition timing and fuel mixtures of the vehicle in the same way as a normal chip style upgrade. The Powerchip computer is infinately reprogrammable in the future. Installation takes about 1 hour and can be performed by a Powerchip Authorised Fitter. We have authorized fitters in most areas. Please enquire at the time of order for your nearest fitting station. In standard form, the S2000 2.0 produces 176 kW and 208 Nm. Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 190 kW and 193 kW, and it's torque to between 224 Nm and 228 Nm. -------------- Essentially what happens is that the the stock fuel injectors are only running at 80% capacity, and that the factory sets the ECU to conform to a number of conditions including emissions testing, fuel economy etc. By fitting a programmable chip to your ECU (ie piggy back chip) you can modify the fuel and ignition maps to provide better power. I would suggest however, that before you add a chip to the car, change the exhaust and add a cold air intake. Check this article : http://www.autospeed.com/A_0911/cms/article.html M@ |

still , how can a chip add so much more hp?!
It must be adding a lot more fuel. I had horrable experince when engines are running too rich, on my 99 CBR900RR with jet kit, I burned out all 4 spark plugs in 2 days, and on my 98 prelude, they (denso Iradium)are gone after a week,( I had some pros programmed my HONDATA in a local race shop, so, you can be sure that they know what they are doing). Yeah, it is true that I felt a lot more powerful than before, but would you burn out your plugs like crazy? |

A chip doesn't add any more horsepower. A chip lets you fine tune the fuel delivery and ignition maps. As stated before most cars are not optimally tuned as they have emissions tests etc to pass.
To make power you need both fuel and oxygen. Simply adding fuel will cause your car to run rich and won't make any more power (and may also cause problems). This is why before you add a chip you do some "breathing" mods first (eg air filter/intake, exhaust). On the other hand, some turbo tuners like to run their engines (when on high boost) rich as it avoids leaning out and detonation. This is not a good way of doing things. They would be much better off looking for other ways of avoiding detonation such as water-injection, reducing the boost, retarding the timing etc. M@ |

It's not worth your money yet, unless you have already upgraded breathing like stated above... Your best bet is an APEXi VAFC or a Greddy e-manage... I would most definately suggest getting these dynotuned as well, being that "butt-tuning" can be very unreliable... I got 15rwhp with my vafc and a I/H/E setup, which I am now ditching for the e-manage and some internal work... If you want control over your ignition timing, greddy is the way to go... unless you have about 1500, then AEM EMS would be awesome... full stand alone system...
