S2000 in winter
I'm looking at buying an S2000... just one problem... Michigan winters. I was wondering if anybody in Michigan, or similarly crappy weathered place, has an S2000 for a daily driver. Anything would help, i really just want to know how bad it is in the snow. Thanks

crappy weather
Hellllllloooo! I'm from the Arctic circle! Actually since santa is so close to me I asked him for a S2000! I have never been towed, everytime i crash in a ditch i just spin my way out of just pick up my car because it is so small! But, seriously i live in Southern California and drive around with the top down during mid-winter. Michigan? Just play icehockey and drive a Zamboni! I wouldn't do it just move. Oh wait a snow plow would work too! GL............ Don't do drugs.

Don't do it
I Live in Lake Tahoe, Long winter lots of snow. Don't do it first of all the s2000 is so close to the ground the gravel/salt on the road will require a new paint job every spring, 2nd the car would suck in the snow RWD light weight lots of power to the rear. Take my advice don't drive a nice car in the winter my S2000 spends the winter in storage and I drive a 1990 subaru wagon it was very cheep I don't care if it gets bumper of scratched and rund great in the snow also my insurance would be $500 more a year had I not owned the Subie.

NC Daily Driver S2k
I drive mine all year round... but NC only gets 1" of snow 2 times a year. Came from NY... same winters as Michigan. I would never drive this car in real snow. You can't even get all-season tires! There is a reason for that.

You can get all weather tires. Dunlop S 500 100$ a tire. All weather, wear rated (30,000 mi?) which is much better than 9,000 mi wear out of the Potenzas in the rear. You will lose some dry traction, but not horrible. If you drive sanely, it does fine in the snow. (Cleveland, OH 110" of snow last winter).

I've read an article where they took a Lamborghini Gallardo through the snow on snow tyres....they didn't have too many problems.

Just a car...right
I agree that if you have a short winter or are in an area where you don't get much snow anything drives OK with a good set of snow tires. But why would you subject a nice car to the brutal conditions of winter driving, the paint will get destroyed from gravel the undercarrage/exaust will get rusted out from the salt. I grew up in Lk. Tahoe CA and now live in the middle of WV it is way to easy to buy a beater 10-15 year old Subaru with 200,000+ miles that will run forever, handles better than anything in the snow and is AWD for under $1,000. I guess if you want to re paint every spring (I have a frend back home that has a S4 that does) that is up to you, for me I'll let my S2000 take a break until mid May

I don't think it is a problem cuz I happen to live in MI as well. My other car is a prelude with TEIN type flex, 20 MM drop all around, QUAIFE ATB, and ABS disabled. I drive both of them, the prelude is even lower than my S2k, and I get away just fine.
Besides, they say that there won't be as much snow this year as in last year. Just make sure that you spray your chasis from time to time, get ride of the salt, otherwise it could get nasty. Get some Michilin Alpines, you'll be fine. Besides, drifting in snow, man, what a fun thing to do!!! |

dont do that to your car man.. i used to live in rape you in the ass hickville pa about an hour north of pittsburgh and my parents cars were dad: 98 bmw 540i rwd sucked in the snow but it never rusted from salt even though it was driven all winter by me lol and mom: 95 320sl convertible rwd rusted like crazy, (overpriced chrysler owned pos) i left my 01 prelude in the garage all winter cuz i didnt want another nice car with rust on it at the house especially one that new. so leave it inside all winter man dont do that to such a wonderful vehicle.
but now im in fl with an s2k and all i gotta worry about is hurricanes but one just hit us today and i went to the beach and got effed up by the rain and wind... man this florida weather is nuts |
